So, 3 years ago today, the 8th of January, I slapped that relaxer on my hair and I knew even then, it would be my last relaxer. I had read enough blogs on natural hair and I knew my mind was ready for it. I relaxed my hair again for this last time and even with straight hair, I told myself I was now on the road to natural hair. I could not even toy with the idea of cutting my hair for personal reasons so for me, a long transition was my only option. I was geared up for it. And now, three years later, I am so so glad I decided to grow my hair natural

Consistency is the key to success whether you are studying, trying to lose weight by exercising or eating healthier. Doing the same thing regularly will get you to your goal much quicker than being all over the place and not knowing where you started, what you are doing and not clear on what you want achieve. The same applies to caring for our hair. One also needs to be consistent with methods that work to get good looking healthy hair that really grows.
You have probably heard of grape seed oil (GSO) which comes from pressed grape seeds. You already know that it is odorless, colorless, has a non-greasy texture, relatively cheap and can be found in supermarkets and health stores wherever you go, well, today I want to share with you the wonderful benefits this light weight oil has to our hair.
I went to the 2013 AIHE that was held on the weekend of the 30th at Brightwater Comons in Randburg, Johannesburg. I know l did not mention l will be attending. I thought I would be in Zimbabwe for a wedding on this particular weekend only to find out a week before the wedding that it was going to be held on the 24th. So l ended up quickly getting my act together going for the wedding and then the AIHE the next weekend. The other thing l was a bit skeptical on attending the AIHE and was not really sure if it was really worth going. Ain’t l glad l went. Had a jolly good time.
July 2012 is the month Natural Sisters was born! It’s been one year hey! Where did all 12 months go? Let me tell you all, the past year has been a rewarding experience. I have learnt to write, though not so spectacular but when I wrote my first article, I just did not know how to put my thoughts across and preparing a post was more labor intensive than now. Now I can say, if there is no need for research and it’s just an update on my hair, I just write hey.
Hey you all. I know this has been long in coming but I finally just had to do it. Today, yes today, the 24th of July 2013, Natural Sisters formally announces our sister website, currently the sole sponsors of this blog, Natural Moisture! We have been working on this project for several months now, partly due to public demand, to provide you with products that really work and are compatible with African hair, be it natural or chemically altered.
Four Weeks In Twists
Yey! My kinks managed to get to week four with twists in. Yes week four. I am so proud of myself. As I mentioned in the previous post just before this one, one of my frustrations with two strand twists is my hair’s inability to keep them on for at least a month. I also mentioned that I did my twists differently to try and address this problem area of our relationship.
I love them, I love them, I love them. Flexi rods are so great and I really love them.
Although the name clearly states the word “oil”, jojoba oil is not actually a form of oil. It is a form of liquid wax extracted from a plant named Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) or simply, Jojoba plant. It is a shrub that originally grows in the desert areas of Arizona, Mexico, and California. The oil makes up approximately 50% of the jojoba seed by weight
For a natural head, glycerine or any product containing glycerine is a “use at your own risk” or is that so? Many naturals have a love hate relationship with glycerine and being one myself, I really do feel you. It has caused many a bad hair day for me when a supposed to be twist out or braid out becomes so mushy, frizzy and my hair shrinks to like 50% and as usual I end up going to plan B. So, to say I love glycerine, umm, not always I am afraid. But I don’t hate it either. It usually leaves my hair so soft and I can really feel that it is well moisturized when I spritz or spray with a glycerine containing product.
