Hey you all. I know this has been long in coming but I finally just had to do it. Today, yes today, the 24th of July 2013, Natural Sisters formally announces our sister website, currently the sole sponsors of this blog, Natural Moisture! We have been working on this project for several months now, partly due to public demand, to provide you with products that really work and are compatible with African hair, be it natural or chemically altered.
African Natural hair
Natural Sisters met up with this beautiful lady with gorgeous hair and as you know, not all hair is the same but hearing/reading other people’s experiences may help you along your journey, so I decided to drop her a few lines she could answer to and let us in on her journey. Please read on and enjoy, comment and show love!
Four Weeks In Twists
Yey! My kinks managed to get to week four with twists in. Yes week four. I am so proud of myself. As I mentioned in the previous post just before this one, one of my frustrations with two strand twists is my hair’s inability to keep them on for at least a month. I also mentioned that I did my twists differently to try and address this problem area of our relationship.
This morning I noticed the trees around our home are shedding their leaves. Winter is fast approaching friends and mornings and evenings are becoming colder and colder. Just this past week, it was so cold in Johannesburg we had to wear winter boots and all. This just reminded me to make up my mind on how I will take care of my hair this coming winter to minimize breakage. Below are tips on how you can take care of your mane this winter.
A close friend asked me if I could post on what I do to my hair from wash day to the next wash day, which is from Friday to Friday for me because I wash my hair once a week. The request came quite a while ago but I just could not figure out the best way to go around doing it. So here I am going to try my best to explain what I do to my hair most weeks because I switch and change sometimes depending on what is available, the weather and whether my hair is in a protective style or not. I may leave out some information but be assured, it will not be intentional.
Honey as you may know, is a sweet food substance which is loaded with minerals and vitamins and as much as it is sweet to the taste, good for our bodies, it is also very good for our skin, scalp and hair when applied topically. When I did a “yoghurt and honey conditioner” for my hair and later posted on the benefits of yoghurt for our hair, I said I would also write on the benefits of honey so here goes.
Laden with minerals such as copper, iron, manganese, calcium, sodium, potassium and phosphorous also vitamin B and C, honey is very potent in reducing dandruff, stimulating the hair follicles to remedy baldness or excessive hair loss and moisturizing the scalp and hair to prevent breakage. This is so because these minerals and vitamins, although in small quantities, combined make honey a strong antioxidant, germicidal and fungicidal.
Not All Bobby Pins Are Equal.
Last week I learnt a lesson and that is, ‘Not all hair pins are equal’. Let me admit, when shopping for hair pins, I used to just go for the cheapest and the color that I need. This would cost me about R8 for a 30’s box of bobby pins. I use pins a lot in styling my hair so I am always looking for pins and one day whilst doing my ‘rounds’ for pins in Dischem, I came across a 48pk no slip bobby pins from Denman which was selling for R39.99. Now for me, the price means a lot on whether I will buy or leave something. I normally also consider value for money but much on the price. So the first time I saw these pins I was like, “what’s the big deal? Do I really have to pay that much for a bunch of bobby pins?”
I call it a journey because it is a real journey with its twists and turns, mountains and valleys, deeps and highs, straights and bends, most of the times I have no idea what awaits my hair the next day or week. 2012 has been awesome as far as my hair is concerned and I will be two years post relaxer come the 8th of January 2013.

Wow!! Winter is finally over and we are well into summer in this part of the world. While winter gives our stresses a hard time, with all the dryness, excessive cold and indoor heating that is usually very dry and damaging to our hair, summer has its own set of problems although they are not many.
