Last week I learnt a lesson and that is, ‘Not all hair pins are equal’. Let me admit, when shopping for hair pins, I used to just go for the cheapest and the color that I need. This would cost me about R8 for a 30’s box of bobby pins. I use pins a lot in styling my hair so I am always looking for pins and one day whilst doing my ‘rounds’ for pins in Dischem, I came across a 48pk no slip bobby pins from Denman which was selling for R39.99. Now for me, the price means a lot on whether I will buy or leave something. I normally also consider value for money but much on the price. So the first time I saw these pins I was like, “what’s the big deal? Do I really have to pay that much for a bunch of bobby pins?”
Needless to say, the reason why I would always shop for bobby pins is because the cheap ones I used to buy do not hold my hair firm enough, the black coat of paint comes off after only one or two uses, the rounded tips come off as well after one or two uses and they end up pulling and tagging at my hair when inserting them and pulling them out which would result in a lot of unnecessary pain so I kept throwing the damaged ones in the bin and looking for more cheap bobby pins and the cycle continued. This last week however, I decided to buy the “very expensive” bobby pins and wasn’t I glad I did. I love these pins. What they say on the pack is what they do. They are strong, very good quality, really no-slip hold and they do not tag on my hair at all when pulling them out which is a real big plus for me. I like them. They are really value for money.
The only downside is that, they come with three different colors of pins in one pack. There are 16 black ones, 16 brown and 16 silver. I am not a big fan of silver pins in my hair so I thought this kind of limits the choice on the color you want to purchase In my case, I only wanted black bobby pins but had to buy the whole pack. Maybe it is high time I started experimenting with these other colors. Why not really? But I love them all the same. They are wow for me.
If you are facing the same dilemma as I was facing with bobby pins, why not give the Denman ones a try,am sure they will not frustrate you further. Besides their price, they are really a must have. Anybody ever used them? Please let us know or any other brand that you love for that matter, tell us about it in the comments section below.
Till then, happy pinning

You know, I never actually thought about this. I also want to get the cheapest pins…I mean, they’re bobby pins! Why spend so much. But there I am in the mirror cursing at how my pins are chipped and have no black coating on them anymore and turns out I have to buy more and more often. Perhaps it’s time I also invested in some good quality ones. I use them everyday!
