Hair Meet-up Lunch Update

by Evenes Ruth Mafupa

As you may know, Natural Sisters hosted a hair meet-up on the 7th of December 2013 together with Fatsani and Serati. It was a blast and The Lord blessed our quest to meet each other and share the knowledge on our natural hair. It was an unexpected success with all the glitches and time changes and all. However, some wonderful ladies managed to come and we had lot’s of fun and we discussed everything hair.  The food, though not over the moon, was okay. Maybe I was expecting too much with the way Boston BBQ gets so filled with people and it is so difficult to find a booking. Anyway, we had a wonderful time and a Big Thank you to all attendees.

Goodie bags and Voucher from Natural Moisture

In a nut shell, let me brief you on what took place. I welcomed every attendee at the entrance and led them to our table, and soon everyone was opening up their goodie bags with excitement written all over their faces. I am the only one who knew what was in the goodie bags because I packed them personally. Want to know what was in it? I will let you know at the end of this update so read on. Boston BBQ serves a buffet so we then quickly went to get some food to avoid the queues because the place was filling up fast.

Introductions were done whilst enjoying our lunch and soon questions started flying across the table, I tell you, we may all have natural hair but our stories are different. We may look similar but although our past is not an excuse, it does define most of our battles and the path we take on our separate journeys to achieving our natural glory. For indeed hair is a woman’s crowning glory. So we shared though abruptly, our journeys, struggles with different hair issues (mine being issues with gel, but that is a post for another day) and how to achieve different styles on natural hair. There was a lot of laughter and real sense of belonging and family, you know that sense of, “you are not alone in this, we’re in it together”.

With the keenness to learn and understand how certain things are done and which products are used to achieve certain styles and time and space constraints, we soon realised it was inevitable that arrangements for a second hair meet-up need to commence very soon and this time in a place where we can have demonstrations and more time to get the full benefits on meeting each other and talking about growing our natural hair.

Shortly we did the draw for the Natural Moisture Gift Voucher and it was won by Tshiamo. Yey! Followed by another draw by Mixtress in the Kitchen and the winners were Thandeka and Khopotso. Yey! We then said our goodbyes and it was time to part. 🙁grp

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all who helped make our first hair meet-up a success. Special thanks goes to Fatsani of Mixtress in the Kitchen and Serati of Afro Hair in Fashion for their support. Some contributed by their presence and others by a word or two of advice, to you I say thank you so much. I highly appreciate it. December being a busy month, most people who would have loved to be there could not make it mainly because of the time change. The original information I got about the venue made me to believe I could book a group table a day or two before the event and I only learnt it when it was too late that I needed to book well in advance and I think mainly because of the busy December period. I should have anticipated that and it is all my fault. We learn from our mistakes and aim to do better next time. I learnt a lot from hosting this hair meet up and what I am really grateful for is we managed to meet and hope to move from strength to strength. As I mentioned plans are already under way for another meet up in the new year, I would like to hear your thoughts on what you would want to happen at a hair meet-up and where you would prefer it to be, so I can add on what was brainstormed at the meet-up. Please email me your suggestions or comment below and thank you in advance.

More peace and love to you and your loved ones during these holidays and whatever you do, do not forget that all hair is good hair. Yours may be different from mine abut that is what was allotted to me by my Creator and I thank God for every bit of me as long as it is pleasing to Him. Be blessed. group

PS. The goodie bags had sample packs of whipped Shea butter, Bentonite clay, Black Soap and a hair band. Sounds good hey? Well the ladies loved them and these are products I use on myself and truly love and it was my pleasure to share them with these special ladies.
