Hair is growing all the time right? Yes. We have dealt with that already. However, the reason why some us don’t seem to notice any length is because our hair breaks as fast as it grows. Now there are many causes for breakage which I’m going to touch on slightly so that you understand why I do what I do when I wear wigs. I will admit. I mainly wear wigs because of lack of time to style and do stuff to my hair. But that does not exonerate me from taking care of my hair completely. But, wearing a wig, cuts the time that it takes to take of my hair.
After washing my hair, I plait my hair into 5 or more sections of cornrows. Yes, remember time is of essence here so the cornrows are kept to a minimum. Besides, right now I only have an Afro Kinky wig, thanks to Darling Hair who sent me the hair to try out and I absolutely love it. So, I can get away with bigger sections because the humps wont show on top of the wig. If you wear straight wigs, you may want to make the sections smaller. I also make sure my cornrows are not too tight. I can’t deal with “pain & beauty” and, I’m not signing up for a receding hairline here (traction alopecia).
I then spray my hair with an anti-dandruff spray or the Nashe organics moisturising daily hair spray and apply the Nashe Organics Hair Growth oil because it helps with moisturising my scalp and keep dandruff away, at least for a week. On a daily basis, I also spray my hair and scalp in the morning and apply a leave-in conditioner before wearing my sock and then wearing my wig for the day. At night, I will take off my wig and let my hair and scalp get some fresh air. I don’t usually spray my hair or apply anything at night because I don’t wear a scarf or cover my hair when I go to sleep because I’m not concerned about keeping my style looking neat for longer. So since I sleep on a satin pillowcase, I can get away with no satin scarf or bonnet.
So the key thing is to moisturise my hair and scalp every single day to make sure my hair does not dry up and get brittle. Brittle hair breaks and so keeping hair moisturised helps with combating breakage and when there is no breakage, you realise length. Over manipulation of the hair also increases the chance of breakage and washing my hair once a week and plaiting it into cornrows is very protective to my hair because I reduce the chance of breakage. Exposing hair to sun’s rays or UV radiation weakens the hair and may result into breakage. Covering my hair with a wig keeps my hair protected and gives my hair a break from exposure to UV rays.
So, if you wig as well, make sure to take care of your real hair underneath so that you will be able to maintain a healthy head of hair. Healthy hair retains length.
And abut this wig, the hair is from Darling Hair, It’s synthetic and it’s called Afro Kinky in colour 1. The wig was made at our Hair studio in Edenvale called Nashe Hair Studio and we used 2 packs of the hair.
Thank you for coming by today and stay blessed. Kisses 🙂
