Bentonite clay wash, Step by Step

You know it is important to do treatments even on natural hair right? Like your protein treatments, deep conditioning, Henna treatments, clay treatments right? Trust me, I have a treatment up my sleeve for anything that my hair needs. And I range from Mayonnaise and egg in the fridge to bought products and I just do it all you guys. Well today, I wanted to share with you what I do when doing a bentonite clay treatment from mixing the clay to applying it on my hair. The reason why I did the bentonite clay treatment was mainly to detangle my hair since I had just removed braids which I had on for almost 5 weeks. And trust me, Bentonite clay melts all knots and tangles away just like that. It is really the best product when it comes to detangling my hair after a long term protective style.

What I used.

A jug for the water and later for the mixed clay

A blender bottle to blend everything together

400 ml of room temperature, previously boiled water

3 Tbs Bentonite clay

2 TBS Apple Cider Vinegar

2 Tbs Olive oil

Thats all I used guys. That simple. I put everything in the blender bottle, made sure the cap is tight and then shook the bottle vigorously for about 30 seconds really. Bentonite clay has never been that simple to mix. Yeah. 30 Seconds is all it took. I poured the mixture into another jug and voila, my smooth liquid goodness was ready to use.

I applied my bentonite clay on dry hair. My hair was in chunky twists which I did while undoing my braids. Please note, my hair was not detangled at all prior to the bentonite clay treatment. I knew I could get away with it though because I had done it before and really, I trust bentonite clay with my… knots and tangles. ha ha ha.

Anyways, the mixing, application and all is in the video and if you use bentonite clay already and was finding it hard to mix into a smooth paste, try out the blender bottle. You will not go wrong.

French Plait With A Twist: Natural Hairstyles

So in January, when I recorded the 2016 hair update video and the length check one, I also recorded how I styled my hair for that day. And because life keeps happening, I didn’t get to edit the vid until recently. I know. it’s mid March already and the video is really late. I thought, better ~~late~~ very late than never right?

And you guys, at least some of you have been asking me to show you more natural hairstyles and I thought I could contribute my bit although I am not a guru when it comes to hairstyles. I am a simple kinda person. I have my go to styles and really wear them everyday. Even when I was relaxed, I used to part my hair the same way and wear the same style throughout the year until my friend in college thought I had a really nice weave sewn in. I remember when she said,

“When will we get to see your real hair? you’re always weaved up”

And by then, I had never had a weave in my life and I was so shocked that we were hanging together for so long but she didn’t know it was my real hair on my head. I realised it was because I had my part in the same place and wore it down all the time. There probably was no way of telling it was my real hair I suppose. I remember then, after that incident, I tried to wear it pinned up time and again and I used to get people revealing that they thought it was a weave all along… Wow! Was it necessary to tell you this? I guess what I am trying to relay is, unless I make an effort to look different, I usually wear my hair the same way daily so I do not have much hairstyles to share with you guys. The few that I try, I will share but please do bare with me.

This is a simple hairstyle by the way and all you need to know how to do is a French plait and flat twisting. It works on medium to long hair. You can also tweak it up for shorter hair by adding hair extensions. I hope this video helps you in a way because that’s the reason I recorded it and spent time editing it. Stretchy Comb Pinned Updo On Natural Hair: South Africa!

Some years back, I posted this hairstyle on Facebook and some ladies wanted me to do a tutorial on how I do it. So here it is. I could not do it much earlier because my hair has been thin for quite some time because of post-partum shedding. Now that it’s getting thicker, I thought to do it for you. It’s not rocket science though. So simple it’s a hairstyle that you can do in less than 5 minutes. I know my hair is not as long as it was then but it’s getting there 🙂

For some people, having long hair does not involve a lot of do’s and don’t’s. They do not do numerous DIY sessions just to keep their hair still attached to their scalp and rely entirely on a stylist (tried and tested I think) at a trusted salon. I wish I was one of those because it seems I have developed a phobia for someone handling my hair. I really hope I will grow out of it because I really do believe there are a lot of stylist who really care and know how to deal with natural hair out there. Finding one can be the first step. Will be working on it. Any how, Jane happens to be one of those extremely blessed ladies and she sent Natural Sisters photos and shares her natural hair journey as she is our Natural Sister Feature for today.

Hey you all. When I was styling my hair for the birthday giveaway video last week, I recorded it so that I can show you how I did the style. This easy updo can be done on medium length to long hair. By medium length I mean hair that is no longer a TWA. They are a few variations to this twist and tuck updo which has become my go to style on old twist outs and I will try and do tutorials on them soon.
