Hey loves. If you follow Natural Sisters on Facebook, Instagram and You Tube, you may know I did a sleek low bun with gel and some Marley hair. I had not done this style for so long and me being on a finger detangling challenge, I didn’t even know it was possible but I decided to try it out. You can’t possibly fail before you try, right?
When I used to do sleek buns with gel in the past, it was usually a product of either a failed wash n go with curls that didn’t exactly pop or an old wash n go that I will be trying to prolong it’s life. This time though, that was the intended style. Thanks to a community of natural friends, I got more tips on how to do a better sleeked bun using gel from Karabo from Afro Amour on how to slay it well and enjoy it too.
I explained the whole process in the video so go ahead and watch it. Don’t forget to subscribe to my channel and leave a comment.
My Experience
- My hair was 90% dry when I applied the gel, so it didn’t take too long to set and dry.
- I also only applied the gel on top of my hair to sleek it down and not all of the hair on my head. This means I used less gel and reduced the drying time significantly.
- I went 4 days in a set style. No manipulation, protective style, time saving in the morning and evening routine
- My hair was set in a straight style all the time. Zero tangling and so much joy on wash day
- Ecostyler gel did not dry my hair out at all, my conscience was clear. minimum harm caused. There were no flakes as well. As I explain in the video, choice of products is important when setting hair using gel.
- The Marley hair I used was old hair that I have used so many times already, talk of re-using resources! It was already curly as well, which matched my hair most people thought it was my natural hair.
- There was no downside really. I enjoyed my style through and through and I’m surely going to be doing sleek buns more often.
Maintenance
My sleek bun was very low maintenance. All I did was cover my hair with a satin scarf at night and in the mornings, I would spray a bit of water to the exposed hair and apply a bit of gel to keep flyaway’s at bay and smooth my edges. Then I would style my bun and hit the road.
Do you do buns? What’s your take on using gel to sleek them down?
Thanks for reading this far. Blessings
