A huge Thank you to those who participated in the Durban Natural Hair Meet up. It was really awesome of you and you made it the success that it was. Oh I am so humbled by you guys. I really am. Thank you. From the speakers and each and everyone who took time out to attend. Especially those who traveled for more than 200km just to attend. Can you imagine? When we take these meet ups for granted here in Johannesburg almost. I am grateful and I am so grateful for the support.
As you may know we drove to Durban the morning of the meet up. The venue was a boutique hotel, Audacia Boutique hotel, so everything was set and there was no need to be at there way before time. Four speakers in one car, Serati, Isabel, Nangamso and myself. Wendy was already in Durban so we met here at the venue. Just put a couple of naturals in a car on a long trip and see what happens. A meet up of course. Yeah, our meet up started in the car. Being bloggers, we talked about everything. Blogging, vlogging, work, our hair and just about everything. it also gave us a special time to know each other better and to bond. I really loved it. We left Johannesburg at 4 a.m. stopped at Harrismith for some breakfast at Mug & Bean and then went on to Durban where we arrived at 12 noon. The event was for 1300 hrs so we had an hour to take our bags into our rooms at Durban Self Catering, Bed & Breakfast, change and get to the venue.
By the time we arrived, there were ladies already waiting for us to start. At least we were 15 minutes early so no hustle. What a beautiful setting for such an event. The hosts were awesome as well, their food delicious and their facilities superb. The early birds were given little gifts, extra samples from our sponsors for being early. Isabel from MzansiFro was our event coordinator/MC. As mentioned on the features that were ran on this blog about the Durban Natural hair meet up, we started off with Nangamso on starting and maintaining dreadlocks, Serati on The science of black hair, Wendy on Protective styling, I presented on Looking groomed and professional with natural hair and Isabel spoke on coming up with a hair regimen that works for you.
It was an afternoon jam packed with information, a lot of laughter and fun altogether. You cannot afford not to laugh with such entertaining speakers. I was in stitches most of the time.
Our goodie bags had products from Sunpac who gave us Aunt Jackie’s and Ultimate Organics Therapy samples, ORS-SA samples and a booklet loaded with tips for great hair. Vuyile from Professional Products gave us loads of samples of her whole range of products, Mango & Lime and 111 Sisters of Nature. We got some samples on Afro Botanics kids range as well although they were not enough to give all attendees. Those were the ones given to early birds I mentioned earlier. Natural Moisture of course also contributed to the goodie bag with our best seller, Twist & Shine Hair butter samples.
Golden sponsors of the meet up were, Natural Moisture and Afro Botanics, who contributed financially to make this event happen. Afro Botanics and Natural Moisture also gave away spot prizes at the event. Can you imagine how much fun that was? Some ladies walked away with stuff worth far more than they even paid to attend. Professional products was our Silver sponsor who also contributed cash for the event. A big thank you again to all our financial sponsors for the amazing support. ORS_SA and Sunpac gave us samples for goodie bags as mentioned before and Niche Hair Care gave away some spot prizes, Design essentials and t444z. The Silk Helmet Lady sent a beautiful Natural’s T-shirt to give away. I need to get me one. Thank you so much for supporting this event which the attendees voiced their gratitude already and are hoping for another one in the coming year.
