So, some two weeks back, I attended a fashion show at the Soweto Fashion week. I have not been to any fashion show ever save for those we used to have in boarding school, so I didn’t know what to expect. I was up for it though as I wanted to see what our African sisters and brothers were busy with and to support the initiative as well. I went on a Thursday night with hubby to Soweto Theater where the show was and this was the first day of the show.
I got an invitation email from Darling Hair to attend as one of their VIP guests and I could choose on which day to attend. I chose to go on Thursday the 19th of November especially because that’s when hubby would be available. Upon accepting the invite, the next morning, this dropped on my desk, hand delivered by their agent.

I gave away the wine of course to someone at the next company since I’m not even a casual drinker. Communion is enough for me thank you very much. No one at Natural Moisture drinks as well. The two hair pieces that came as part of the gift, I kept and will probably make a wig with one and give away the other. I can’t seem to commit to a sew in weave. I prefer the versatility of a wig.
In the evening, we drove to Soweto and got to the venue before the show started. Since we were VIP guests, we managed to get some eats as well before the event. It was good to meet one of Natural Moisture’s clients who stays in Cape Town and was in Gauteng for the show. That felt really nice. She loves our products by the way.
The show was more than I expected. Being a self taught clothes designer myself, it was really great to see the talent residing in the designers who showcased. Although most of the clothes I can’t wear even if paid to wear them, the art, cultural with modern hint and talent all mingled into one was just so lovely to be part of. I enjoyed myself much.

For those who don’t know, I started making clothes for myself from grade 5 and ladies’ and cultural clothing will always be close to my heart. Even now, when time allows, I even make some clothes for myself and a few close friends and family.
But here I was invited by Darling Hair who were one of the sponsors of the show. Therefore I shall not neglect to mention that the hairstyles of the models were on point. Most had hair extensions though if not all. I mean come on, Darling Hair’s business is in extensions so they were out to show the beautiful range on offer under the Darling Hair brand. We had goodie bags as well which included a pack of yaki bulk hair extensions, a small cute note book and pen branded “Darling”
Here are some pictures taken on the night I went. It’s so evident that I like the purple dress. There more outfits that I liked but my phone went flat on that night and I had not carried my camera with.
