There is one question I get so often and that is, “where can I find a salon that specialises in natural hair?” Although I do my hair 99% of the time, there is definitely a gap in the market and some serious entrepreneurs have identified that gap. For a long time I have also toyed with the idea of opening an all natural hair salon as well but, running one business is no joke and what about two? So although it’s still something that I would consider doing later in life, I was thrilled to be approached by the founding directors of Ngemvelo, Afro Only Specialist Salon to be part of their journey. And they are launching tomorrow the 27th of August 2016.
These are two friends, one has been natural for 12 years straight and is a real veteran in natural hair care and the other is transitioning to natural hair. As they put it to me, they were discussing about how they would love to have their hair done in a salon that was very knowledgeable about dealing with natural hair and not always having to DIY when it comes to natural hair. They decided to turn their frustration into a business and rather direct their energy there instead of mourning about the absence of such a service. That’s when Ngemvelo was conceived. The beauty of it all is the fact that they got to work right away by setting the date they would launch and coming up with a pre-launch plan and they have been visiting potential clients in their community for the past month and treating and styling their hair so that they know what to expect when they come to their salon. They also did a photo shoot on the sixth of August where all models used were styled by their stylists, using the products that they are stocking in the salon which are Natural Moisture products
Natural hair care is a niche market and many have noticed they need special training in how to treat and style it. This is when they approached me for the training. So besides partnering with Ngemvelo as far as having Natural Moisture products being used and sold in their salon, I offered them extensive training as well which got them started with their natural hair salon and I am always on call if they need to ask something so that they do the right thing all the time. In a way, through this partnership with Ngemvelo, I feel as if I’m doing something in transforming natural hair care in the salon system. Although I have not opened a salon, I am helping those who have taken the courage to open one and also offer my expertise to promote them. So I am excited about this salon launching tomorrow and the partnership we have with Ngemvelo to provide natural hair care in a salon where you can relax and have your hair washed, do a treatment, have it styled and know that they specialise in your type of hair which is Afro hair.
If you are in Vosloorus and surrounding areas, and you are natural or transitioning to natural hair, then you may want to attend the launch tomorrow and become a patron of this new venture that is one of the first movers to disrupt salon business and natural hair care. They are going to have several specials on the day so ask your feet to take you there tomorrow! You will not regret it.
Blessings from me to you! Keep loving, that’s very important
